trying to find the perfect match between pretentious and pop, part two

The Moldy Peaches - Anyone Else But You
"Up up left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart."

Patrick Wolf - Bluebells
"You were my husband, my wife, my heroin."

La Roux - Bulletproof
"I'll tell you now, I'm much too proud
to walk away from something when it's dead."

Camera Obscura - Honey in the Sun
"I wish my heart was cold as the morning dew
But it's warm as saxophones and honey in the sun for you."

Bright Eyes - Road to Joy
"So when you're asked to fight in a war that's over nothing
It's best to join the side that's gonna win."

Basia Bulat - True Love Will Find You In The End
(Daniel Johnston cover)
"This is a promise with a catch
Only if you're looking will it find you
‘Cause true love is searching too
But how can it recognize you
Unless you step out into the light?"

Little Boots - Ghost
"Do you even know that I'm here?
I might as well be a ghost, it's true, you walk right through me
Look in the mirror and you, you see nothing but yourself
It's true, I see right through you."

Tomàn - Fisherman
"Because we want to, we will have, we must have fish for supper"

album artwork

I just came to the conclusion that almost every brilliant 2009 album has horrible cover artwork.

boosting my indie ego

A lot of the artists I wrote about are doing extremely well lately. The brilliant Florence and the Machine for example is all over the radio, apparantly. Of course, you first read about her here, on this blog. On January 26, 2008. That's a lot of indie credibility I get there. Seems like forever ago (see what I did there? an indie-related pun! extra indie points!).

Little Boots is another one. I blogged about her on March 9, 2008. Of course, with Little Boots being the new pop star, I have to dis on her and tell everyone she's not as good as she used to be, just to keep my indie cred high and dry. I won't do that. On first listen, debut 'Hands' was a slight disappointment, but it's been growing on me steadily. Sometimes I like my pop polished. And it's perfect for summer, just like all those other L's that have been popping up during the last year: Ladyhawke, La Roux, Lady GaGa, ...

So, I just threw away all my indie credibility. Like I care. Pop is the new indie.

Here's a song from Little Boots' 'Hands', the untitled hidden track (hidden tracks are one of my pet peeves, but sometimes you have to sit through the silence because the reward is worth the wait):

P.S. please don't take this post too serious.
